Kelly Ann Morton, 53, of
Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She was born June 3, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Gary E. Graves and Laurie E. Graves.
Kelly graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 1992 with a degree in Elementary Education. She later added a Master's Degree in Education from Wilson College in 2016. Her first job after college was serving as a social worker with the Washington County Department of Social Services in their Child Protective Services and Foster Care Divisions. Many of her cherished friendships began with DSS. She continued her work with children in 2004 when she took a position as the Family Involvement Coordinator at Eastern Elementary School. She entered the classroom in 2010, teaching first grade at Paramount Elementary School, followed by fourth grade at Potomac Heights Elementary and finally Williamsport High School, where she taught English Language Learners. She was a multi-time Teacher of the Year Nominee for Washington County. She was an active member of Hebron Mennonite Church, serving as part of the Leadership Team, including serving as the Director of Administration for several years.
Kelly's greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, including many dogs (some of whom were rather large and one might charitably call "challenging"). She considered her Fountainhead North Neighbors her extended family, and she loved to entertain on the back deck which she designed, decorated, furnished and filled with flowers whose beauty radiated every spring well into the fall.
Kelly was her daughters' most ardent supporter, attending all of their sporting events, occasionally coaching their teams, counseling them on topics ranging from academics to relationships, career choices, popular culture, shopping and anything else which caught their fancy. No problem was insurmountable and no concern too trifling for Kelly.
Kelly's years-long battle with cancer was remarkable to behold. She bravely endured surgery and multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, without complaint. Because, after all, complaining would merely diminish the precious moments she had remaining with her loved ones.
Kelly and her family are indebted to Dr. Victoria Giffi and her incredible staff for their compassionate care during Kelly's illness. And Hospice of Washington County attended to Kelly's (and her family's) every need during her final months.
Kelly is survived by her husband of twenty-four wonderful years, Jason; daughters, Meredith and Sadie; parents, Gary and Laurie Graves; brother, Peter Graves; and mother-in-law, Mary Morton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a memorial donation to Hospice of Washington County's Benevolence Fund or My Wish Program.
The family will receive friends and family at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North,
Hagerstown, MD on Monday, January 13 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Kelly's life will be held sometime in the Spring. Online condolences may be expressed at www.douglasfiery.com
