It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Vivian Donoghue, 92, formerly of Hagerstown, MD. Barbara passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Carroll Hospital Center, in Westminster, MD. Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she has found eternal peace and joy in the presence of her Savior. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Born October 1, 1932, in Clifton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harold A. Daly and Edith (Smith) Daly. Barbara lived a life of unwavering faith. Her generosity was unmatched and her heart overflowed with love. She was a devoted mother to her many children, instilling in each of them the values of compassion, generosity and faith in God.

Barbara dedicated countless hours to serving others, volunteering tirelessly in her church and community. She was a member of the Secular Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and served as Secretary for Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Additionally, she supported countless families in need through her work with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Her gentle spirit and willingness to help anyone in need touched the lives of many, and her acts of kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
After graduating from Pope Pius XII High School in Passaic, NJ, she went on to earn her nursing degree. Serving as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years, Barbara began her career supporting patients in the labor and delivery unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. Later, she spread her compassion by caring for patients in various nursing homes and hospice care settings in and around the Hagerstown area.

She is survived by twelve of her thirteen children: Eileen Hoover of Annapolis, MD, John Donoghue of Hagerstown, MD, Michael Donoghue of Stevensville, MD, MaryAnne Clisham of Nottingham, MD, Kathleen Kautsch of Bluffton, SC, Anne Marie Abod of Annandale, VA, Patricia Moulton of Hagerstown, MD, Joseph Donoghue of Arlington, VA, Elizabeth Vecera of Stafford, VA, Maureen Wickesser of Finksburg, MD, Patrick Donoghue of Richmond, VA, and Susan Bueche of Duxbury, MA, as well as 26 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister, Doris Foster, and many other relatives and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. John J. Donoghue; her son, Kevin Donoghue; her grandson, Maximus Bueche; and her sister, Edith Coyle.

Her legacy of love, faith and service will live on in the many lives she touched.

Sending sympathy and love to comfort you during this sad time. Growing up in St. Mary Catholic Church and school, and St. Maria Goretti with many of her children, I feel especially connected to the loss of Mrs. Donoghue. My favorite memory is with Mike, waiting for the line of white station wagons in the alley at pick up from St. Mary School. As the doors flew open and I got in, I quickly realized I was not in my mom´s car but theirs! Our dear moms and a car full of blonde kids made it a reasonable mistake! She was a wonderful woman whom my Dad also admired for her volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul. Truly God gifted her abundantly!! May He shine down on all of you, always!
Love,
Cindy (Hartnett) Sorensen
