Roger Layman Powers, 80, of Clear Spring, MD, passed away, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at his home.
Born Thursday, July 5, 1945, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Murl F. Powers Sr. and the late June Lorraine (Randall) Powers.
Roger graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1963 and later from Hagerstown Junior College in 1978. He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Following his military service, Roger dedicated his career to law enforcement as a Sergeant with the Hagerstown Police Department, where he faithfully served the community for 26 years before retiring in 1998. He was a devoted member of numerous organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #88, AMVETS Post 10, American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown, Moose Lodge #2462 in Williamsport, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #694. He was also a life member of the Bass Anglers Sportsmen's Society. A lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan, Roger also enjoyed simple pleasures, especially watching The Andy Griffith Show-with Barney Fife as his favorite character and idol.
He is survived by his children, Karlina Nicole Powers Jewell and husband Kaleb, Kristian Erik Powers and wife Trine, and Adam David Powers and wife Matilde; sister, Vickie Sampson; brothers, Murl F. Powers, Jr. and wife Patti, and Donald Wayne Powers and wife Angie; grandchildren, Philip and Zenta Powers, Olivia and Anna Powers, and Kamden and Kerrigan Jewell.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #88, 19638 Leitersburg Pike, Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
