Kenneth Wayne Bounds age 86, of Cantrall, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at his home.
He was born October 19, 1939 to James LeRoy “Roy” Bounds and Beulah H. Gibson Thomas Bounds. He married Nancy Woods on December 7, 1958 at Cantrall United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, three brothers; Melvin R. and LeRoy C. and Dale F. Bounds and two sisters; Betty J. Chastain Burris and Wilda M. Hughes.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Ann of Cantrall; two sons, Keith A. (Vicki) Bounds of Chesterfield, MO and Kurt B. (Leticia) Bounds of Oswego, IL; seven grandchildren, Kyle Bounds of Augusta, GA, Sam Bounds of Baltimore, MD, Madison Bounds of Nashville, TN, Alysia Bounds of Phoenix, AZ and Ansley, Alex & Caden Bounds of Oswego, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kenneth graduated from Athens Community High School. He served six years with the Illinois Army National Guard.
Kenneth worked at the Bunn O-Matic Corporation for 15 years and for Precision Tank and Equipment Company of Athens where he retired after 27 years of service.
He enjoyed sports as a participant as well as a fan. He played softball for twenty-five plus years, was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and followed the “Illini” basketball team. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid deer hunter for many years.
Kenneth enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Over the years, he was involved in community and church volunteer work and tending to his vegetable gardens.
He was a member of the Cantrall United Methodist Church where he was baptized. He served many years on a number of committees including the Administrative Council, the United Methodist Men and Trustees committees.
Visitation will be on Saturday January 17, 2026 from 9:30 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Illinois. Burial will be held immediately after the services at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cantrall United Methodist Church.
