Kenneth Homer Carpenter, Sr. World War II veteran (1/6/1941 - 6/23/1945) passed away November 4, 2024 at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born to Edgar W. Carpenter and Isabelle Elizabeth Rouse Carpenter on November 24, 1921 in Fairmont, W.V., which just happened to be Thanksgiving Day.
He became a Florida resident in 1974 moving from Fairmont, West Virginia. He settled in Williston for several years before moving to Chiefland where he became a well-known figure in the community. Before coming to Florida he was employed by the Monogahela Power Co. Arriving in Florida he became employed with CFEC, heading up their meter department from 1974 -1986.
For many years he enjoyed fishing and woodworking in his spare time, building things to enhance his home inside and out. He was devoted to God and living the Christian life. He had a great love for his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his Trailer Club. He loved being around people and sharing a meal. That was joy and happiness to him. If you came to visit, an invitation would always be given to go out and "get a bite to eat."
He leaves behind his second wife, Lucille Stevens Carpenter, a Son Kenneth (Janet) Carpenter, Washington, N.C., grandsons Jay (Fiona) Carpenter, Walstonburg, N.C., Scott (Molly) Carpenter, Winston-Salem N.C., granddaughters Cora and Abigail. In addition he also leaves behind the Stevens/Carswell/Hanna family that came to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Isabelle Carpenter, his beloved first wife of 72 years, Eleanor Eileen Carpenter, and all his siblings.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A common remark around town relayed to him by people that was not from the area was "everybody in Chiefland knows Kenneth Carpenter". He truly was a unique and inspiring man.
A memorial service will be held November 23, 2024, please contact the family for details.
