Obituary of Kenneth Deines
Kenneth L. Deines, 83, of Fort Collins, CO, died March 12, 2023, from complications following a severe back injury.
Ken was born on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1939 in Cheyenne, WY where he lived throughout his childhood. He was the son of parents: Herman Deines and Emma (Lebsack) Deines
Ken attended Cheyenne High School where he graduated in 1958. Ken Graduated from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY in 1962 with a degree in Pharmacy.
Ken began his professional career at the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, AR where he also managed a small pharmaceutical company before moving to Fort Collins, CO. He owned and operated United Health Center Pharmacies in Fort Collins, CO and Cheyenne, WY. Pharmacy remained a passion of Ken's throughout his adult life.
Ken transitioned from pharmacy to life and health insurance sales and management roles with New York Life. His career with New York Life spanned over 20 years where he accumulated numerous professional certifications and progressed through various management roles. Following his time with New York Life, he continued his career with investment planning and capital funding for start-up and early-stage companies.
Ken and Karen raised their three children in Fort Collins, CO then later moved to Ohio and Illinois for job-related relocations. Ultimately, their hearts drew Ken and Karen back to Fort Collins, CO where they remained.
Ken was a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fort Collins where he served in multiple lay positions. The warm friendships and community he enjoyed with his wife Karen at St. Luke's were among the greatest passions of his life.
Ken is survived by his wife, Karen Deines, to whom he was married 62 years, his brother, Paul Deines (wife Nancy), children: Lisa Deines (OH), Michael Deines (wife Susan) (MN) and Kristen Vartanian (husband Steve) (CA), 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman Deines, Emma (Lebsack) Deines and sister Dorothy Sprecher.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 18th at 11:00am at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2000 Stover Street, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
