Age 73, late of Lockport passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia and Alzheimer's. Born and raised in Chicago, moved to Three Rivers, MI, moved back to Chicago, lived in Alsip, and a resident of Lockport since 1986. Member of Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church, Lockport. He graduated from UIC with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology and from the University of Michigan, with a master's degree in environmental sciences. Ken owned and operated Em Kare Wound Care Company. He spent many dedicated years in the medical sales industry. In retirement he was a financial secretary at Shepherd of The Hill Lutheran Church, Lockport. In his younger years he enjoyed photography, playing racket ball, and deep-sea diving with his buddies "The Under Water Beavers". A proud member of Lemont Oaks since 1989, he provided so much support, love, encouragement and motivation for many, which brought him so much joy. Above all else he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Gertrude (Nee Nauseda) Franz; and one brother, Ronald Franz.
Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Karen (Nee Freitag) Franz; six cherished children, Christopher (Shelly) Franz, Genevieve (Justin) Marrs, Amy (Dan) Kelly, Brian Franz, Peter (Natalie) Franz, and Patrick Franz; nine adored grandchildren, Jason Collett, Melora Thomason, Sarah and Kaylee Marrs, Ben and Isaac Kelly, and Jaxon, Kamden, and Hudson Franz; one brother, Allan Franz; one sister, Carole (late Harry) Garrett; his dear aunt, Ruth; two cousins, Cyndie Christie, and Harold Nauseda; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
Per Ken's wishes Cremation Rites have been respectfully addressed.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. Everyone will meet at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church, 925 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 on Friday, March 28, 2025, for a Memorial Service at 11:00am.
