Captain Kenneth Bryan Lewis, 78, of Beaufort, passed away on August 6, 2025.

A graveside service will be held at a later date. 

The son of Robert and Clyde Lewis, Kenny was born and raised in Carteret County. He attended Beaufort High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Kenny spent much of his life on the water, working for many years as a commercial fisherman. He earned his U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain’s License, a testament to his skill and dedication to maritime life, and was also a licensed private pilot. In his later years, he worked with Island Express, operating the Cape Lookout National Seashore Ferry, where he enjoyed sharing his deep love of the ocean and the rich history of Carteret County with visitors from near and far.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (James) MacLaren of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Bryanne (Demetre) Bonet of Rogers, Arkansas; five grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Laura) Lewis; sisters Linda Taylor and Kathy Lewis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kenneth B. Lewis Jr.
