Mr. Kenneth Lux, 88, of Hartwell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at AnMed Medical Center, surrounded by some of his "big beautiful family."
Ken/Kenny was born on February 11, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was raised, the son of the late Kenneth Arthur Lux and Vivian O'Brien Lux, for whom he had the utmost respect, and often quoted their wise counsel. As a boy, he was faithful to attend Catholic Mass and served as an altar boy for many years. Mr. Lux was a supervisor for the United States Postal Service with 44 years of service. He was also a member of the Bell Family YMCA.

After the early tragic loss of young Kenny, Ken and Carol raised their four daughters in the Miami area of South Florida, first in West Hollywood, then the Homestead area. Ken worked hard to maintain many vehicles for his family at their Redlands property, where he enjoyed the Florida sun and keeping German Shepherds and horses. The latter necessitated his intervention on several occasions, from carefully extracting a multitude of branch-inflicted splinters from young Luann's face, to scooping up a bruised and startled Linda who'd been flung from a horse into a hard wood post. The Lux family had a strong community with whom they enjoyed many rural-life activities such as annual New Year's Eve bonfires and harvesting from their small backyard "grove" where they grew "the sweetest grapefruit you've ever tasted."
Besides the role of supervisor for the Postal Service, Ken also served as a Letter Carrier, Clerk, and Undeliverable Package "miracle worker," where he used his keen memory and observational skills to unite letters and packages with their rightful owners. His astuteness even helped to reunite long-lost family members at times, as chronicled in the Ocala Gazette of Ocala, Florida, where he resided for many years.
During their paper route years, Ken pioneered a novel paper-folding technique for his family who delivered for the Miami Herald, an indication of his predilection to always strive for greater efficiency. Luann remembers fondly, the family going out for breakfast on Sunday mornings together at Ranch House, and often ordering a hamburger meal, after the family had been up for hours delivering the heavy Sunday edition of the Miami Herald for multiple paper routes.
Later in life, Ken moved to be near his daughter Laurie in
Hartwell, Georgia, where she and her family had established roots. For many years he enjoyed coffee and the company of those who gathered at the YMCA, where he regularly walked and loved to listen to people talk. Ken was reunited with his wife Carol Jean Lux in
Hartwell, Georgia in 2020, an answer to her years of faithful prayer. They enjoyed spending their time together playing Rummikub, watching sports, remarking on photos of the grands on the Frameo, and discussing Fox News. Carol was a faithful and loyal wife to Ken throughout their long journey.
Mr. Lux wished to be cremated and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hartwell First Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
