Kenneth "Ken" L. May, 73, accepted the greatest gift he could ever receive, a pain-free eternal life, when he passed into the next life on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Ken was born in
Anderson, IN, on June 10, 1952, to John R. and Helen Lucille Nicholas May, and joined two brothers, Raymond "Ray" and Richard "Rick" to make the family complete.
After graduating from Largo High School in Largo, Florida, he attended Appalachian State University in
Boone, NC to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology, and then went on to receive a Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University in
Muncie, IN.
His first teaching position was as the Industrial Arts teacher at Franklin Monroe High School, in
Pitsburg, OH located in Darke County. While he was at FM, he enjoyed coaching Cross Country and Track. The first year at Franklin Monroe also introduced him to his future wife, Donna Dianne Smith. Ten months after meeting, they were married in
Arcanum, OH on June 14, 1975.
In 1979, Ken accepted a job with Westerville City schools to teach Industrial Arts at Blendon Middle School and later at Westerville South High School as the Graphic Arts teacher with the responsibility of providing printing services for the district. While with the Westerville Schools, his coaching career expanded to include football, basketball and track and field at the Middle School level. In the mid-eighties, health challenges began that caused him to retire from teaching in 1989. The health challenges continued for the next forty years. During that time, Ken did various handyman jobs and helped with and supervised the building of numerous log homes.
Ken enjoyed sharing life with Dianne and their three sons, watching the boys grow into manhood and become husbands and fathers. As grandchildren were born, he thoroughly enjoyed spending any time possible with them and sharing their accomplishments. Ken was a long-time member of Bellpoint Community Church, formerly Bellpoint United Methodist Church.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Ken is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dianne and their sons and families: Kyle (Katie and children: Lexie, Ella, Isa, Lulu, Sofia (Sam), Eddy and David May of Bahrain, Devon (Katie and children: Wyatt and Duke) of
