Kenneth James Thomas Pound was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 5th, 1941, to Bernadette Miller and Wayne Pound. He died at his home in West Bloomfield on June 30, 2025.

An incredible loss to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed especially by his wife of fifty-four years, Janet Torreano, and their three children, Molly (Dan Welcher) Pound, Jesse (Elizabeth) Pound, Patrick (Sue) Pound, and grandkids Liam, Declan, Bridget and Francesca, as well as three step grands; Jack, Gavin and Kaila. Ken was a loving brother to Jerry, a favored uncle to his nieces and nephews and a true friend to so many.

Ken graduated from Catholic Central in Grand Rapids in 1959. He went on to attend Eastern Michigan University and received his master's in English Literature and Physical Education. He taught for 54 years at Southfield - Lathrup High School and Oakland Community College. Ken also coached football, wrestling and girls basketball; impacting over 10,000 students lives.

He had been a member of The Delta Sigma Pi's and the Huntington Woods Men's Club.

He was kind and generous, funny and humble. He loved the world and the world loved him back.

Hamlet Act 5 Scene 2:

"Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince,/And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Clawson, Thursday, July 10, from 3-8 pm. Funeral services will take place Friday, July 11, at 11:00 am. Ken's Service will be livestreamed and can be watched at this link here

I only worked with Kenny for one year, when I was just starting and he was just finishing teaching at Southfield-Lathrup High School. Despite being in different departments, he fundamentally shaped the way I view my career and how I interact with students. He was kind and helpful, and helped very much calming the nerves of an anxious new teacher.

You were a great teacher and a better man, Mr. Pound. You will be greatly missed.

Dear cousin Ken! I am sad. Yet, I smile at the memories of the salutations related to turtles and sand. You might call it, our mantra. Those memories will now be guarded in my heart but never forgotten. Do let it be forever said and remembered:
SAND IS JUST SO MUCH TURTLE!
May you find peace resting in the arms of Jesus. Always and forever loved

Who didn´t love Ken Pound? Kind, handsome, literary, funny. A great family man, an adoring husband. Ken always had a twinkle in his eye and a good word for everyone. He was relentless in his pursuit of physical fitness and a devoted teacher who inspired thousands of his students. Janet and Ken were a beautiful couple. Their children and grands are a testament to the life they built together. I will miss Ken Pound and continue to be inspired by his life and love.

Mr. Pound would always greet you with a smile, a firm handshake, and a story or two. I was lucky later in life to call him uncle Ken. He leaves us with great memories, solid workout advice and some amazing stories to tell. He will be missed.

Ken was one of the finest teachers and friends I have ever had. Such a clever sense of humor, such a deep caring for others, such a love of literature, all packaged in this physically restless and capable athlete. So many good times with him. One of the best being our ski trips, especially the first one to Killington, with Terry Kureth and Ken. Great skiing, whooping and hollering down the hills, and even better conversations on the road about life, love, injustice, and integrity, with some literary references thrown in. Thank you, Ken, for all you did for me and for the entire S-L community.

My first coach at SL for football and wrestling, he was head coach of our winning freshmen football team, a real mentor and someone I always looked up to.
May his name forever be a blessing, RIP Mr. Pound

Ken Pound was my wrestling coach at Southfield Lathrup in 1973. He was an incredible coach who delivered life lessons that guide me to this day. Thank you Ken Pound. I will never forget you. May God welcome you with open arms and provide your family with the comfort and strength of knowing such.

Mr. Pound was one of the brightest, kind and humble mentors to many at SL. Whether on the football field, weight room or walking the hallways... he was always giving of himself and parting his awesome wisdom onto others!

He was a bright light in this world and cared deeply for others.

You were one of the kindest souls I´ve ever known-quiet in your strength, humble in your actions, and always giving more than you took. Your presence brought warmth and light to my life, and your absence leaves a silence that echoes. I was lucky to call you my friend. Thank you for everything you gave, simply by being you. You meant more to me and did more for me than words can ever truly say. You were a dear friend. Rest in peace, my brother.

Being a graduate from SL (Class of 81) Mr Pound was the kindest, most supportive and understanding mentor to me. As a Freshman, he truly inspired me be physically and mentally strong and taught me how to lift weights and workout "intelligently" which I continue to do for over 45 years. His demeanor and dedication to those fortunate enough to know him can never be matched and he will be missed.

I have not seen Kenny in many years but he has touched my heart in ways he never knew. He was an inspiration for this kid when I was growing up. He walked into a room and I was in awe of the guy with those muscles. I wanted to be "That Guy" when I grew up. As many of my family knows I always called him that guy. That guy was strong, funny and caring. Time and miles never made me forget how strong he was and how strong I wanted to be. Thanks Ken for leaving me with a goal I will continue to strive for in my life always! God speed "THAT GUY"

Ken was a cool guy and he was always a great support to myself and others I'll always have these fond memories of him he took me down to Southfield Lathrop and let me hang out with him in the gym and the wrestling rooms where they would practice. mind you I was probably only about 10 11 years old so I probably looked at him more like an uncle rather than my brother-in-law he was a great guy to be around I will miss him and thank you Janet for allowing him to be a part of my life.
