Kenneth Richardson Sr. passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 peacefully in the presence of his loved ones at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Kenneth was born on November 21, 1946, to Roscoe and Evelyn Richardson in Battle Creek, Michigan. Kenneth graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1964. While there, Kenneth played basketball and track and was a very disciplined individual. After graduation Kenneth served in the United States Army for 4 years during the Vietnam War. From his first marriage, Kenneth had two beautiful children, Sheryl Watts, and Kenneth Richardson II. Kenneth remarried on June 18, 1987, to his loving wife, Margaret Williams.
Kenneth worked at the Eaton factory and later the V.A Hospital for over 32 years combined. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Kenneth loved spending time with family, traveling, barbecuing, tasting food from different venues, listening to jazz music, and doing yard work. In his spare time, he loved watching his favorite sports teams, The Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers.
Kenneth played a critical role in raising his grandchildren, Anton, Jermaine, Kianna, and Jeremy Williams. He was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and sang in a male chorus for several years at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he led his favorite songs "Your Grace and Mercy" and "Clean Up What I Messed Up." Kenneth was a man of principles who stood by the old saying "to be early is to be on time and to be on time is to be late." Everyone who knew Kenneth saw him as a kind and gentle soul.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Evelyn Richardson; daughter, Sheryl Watts; and his brother, Ronald Richardson. He leaves behind his loving wife, Margaret Richardson; son, Kenneth Richardson II; over 30 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several cousins from Florida, Arkansas, Chicago, and Detroit
.
A funeral service will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Interment will take place at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
