Sunrise: Kenneth "Kenny" Carsley Smith, the oldest son of Erma C. and Walter C. Smith was born on February 16, 1953, in Baltimore Maryland.
Sunset: Kenny went peacefully from labor to rest into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Salvation: Kenny as a young man was baptized at Metropolitan United Methodist Church. He became a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church at a young age under the guidance of his grandmother Mary Kelley Carsley.
Education and Work Experience: Kenny attended Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Northwestern High School in 1971 and has maintained very good relationships.
Kenny was a "Jack of all trades". He loved to tell the story about his first 'real' job as a kid delivering goodies for Fibus Drugstore on a bike with a basket on the handlebar. He later became a shoe salesman at the Mondawmin Shopping Center for Thom Mcan Shoes, Kenny served in the United States Army from 1974-1977, where he learned the science behind the weather and worked as a meteorologist until his discharge. After leaving the military, Kenny later worked at Giant Food Stores in the seafood and produce departments. His dynamic skill set allowed him to work in a variety of positions. With further training, he was placed in a position with Lucent Technologies as a cable engineer. The work ethics he maintained, while helping to close Sparrows Point, landed him a position as Maintenance Manager with About Faces where he worked until October of 2024.
Family: Kenny had two sons, Kedrick Kelley (who preceded him in death) and Kenneth, Jr. both of whom he loved dearly. From those two sons, he has a host of grands and great-grands.
He married his long-time friend Carolyn of 55 years in 2005.
His sister Sheila Tally recently preceded him in death.
Memories: Kenny always lived a very active lifestyle which began as a kid on the 'Ponderosa' where he picked up skills in many sports-tennis, bike riding, bowling, roller skating, and skiing-as he began to venture out of the neighborhood and meet others. His love for all of these activities continued until his death with several trips to the mountains of Colorado, and his last two ski adventures to mountain slopes of Lake Tahoe. He and his wife Carolyn continued to find enjoyment in bike riding with friends and included several biking trips through the traffic in New York City and Central Park then ultimately participating a few times in NY's annual 40 mile, 5-Boro bike event. He also loved the Baltimore Bike Parties, a huge party of bikers riding through the streets of Baltimore City on the last Friday of each month. Kenny, his wife and sisters spent many enjoyable vacations together traveling around the US, Canada and Europe. It was on that last cruise around Spain where he and Carolyn attempted the climb on bikes to the top of the famous 'Rock of Gibraltar'.
Kenny was an avid pinochle player and a member of The Charm City Players of Baltimore. Having never lost the love of a road trip, one of his greatest joys was traveling to play in Pinochle tournaments with his sister, Carol. His driving miles didn't stop there-north, south, east, or west-he traveled to see friends and family. "Let me get my hat" was his favorite saying. Kenny's hardy laugh and outgoing personality brought a big smile to many. His voice rang out all over the room. If you ever lost him in the crowd, just stop and listen for that big voice. He was super sociable. He loved people and created many circles of friends and associates-the more, the merrier. Kenny was the guy you could call that would show up at the drop of a dime to help in any situation. His grandchildren knew that all they had to do was call "Grandad" or "Pop-pop"and he was there.
Kenny leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 19 years Carolyn "Wilson" Smith; sisters, Carol Randall, Lynn Crawley, Kashama (Reggie) McNeil; brothers, Craig (Sharon) Smith, Wayne (Marilyn) Smith; his grandchildren: Monique, Yahnae, Janecia, Yahshea, Yahkeyah, Ty'on Kenny, Yahfae, Kenneth Yahshua (Bubba), and Kendrick; great-grandchildren, Kaylei, Carson, Kapri, Chance, Zi'yah, Yashir, and Kylin; mother-in-law, Doris Wilson; sister-in-law, Karen (Thomas) Whitehurst; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wilson, David (Ollie) Wilson; special friends, Stephen Stubbs, John Wayne Vaughters and Stephen Harrington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
