Kenneth Stancil Sumrell

Mr. Kenneth S. Sumrell, 74, died on October 5, 2023, after a long-standing battle with pulmonary fibrosis. In 2017 he had received the gift of new lungs.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11A.M. in the Ayden Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, 5-7 P.M. at Farmer Funeral Home.
Mr. Sumrell, a native of Pitt County around the Venters Crossroads area, was a graduate of Ayden High School; and received an Associate Degree from Lenoir County Community College. He was employed with E. I. DuPont for 31 years and worked at Vidant Medical Center, now ECU Health Medical Center, for eight years. He was a member of the Ayden United Methodist Church, and was a member of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Sumrell was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Labarth Sumrell; brother, Thomas Sumrell; and sister, Betty Jo Sumrell.
He is survived by his: daughters, Erica Grimsley and her fiancé, Jerry of Ayden, and Meredith Sumrell of Greenville;
grandchildren, Holly Grimsley, and Carter Grimsley; sister-in-law, Denise Barth & husband, Phil; and friend, Bette Himes of Pikeville.
