Kenneth Russel Underberg, the son of Carl and Etta (Hanson) Underberg, was born on May 8, 1928 in Bode, Iowa. In 1945, Keno graduated from Livermore High School. He then served as a motor machinist in the U.S. Navy in 1946-48 on the yard oiler USS Kasinghead YO 47, during the occupation of Japan. Keno farmed with his Dad until serving again in the Navy from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was aboard the USS Polaris AF 11, which was a refrigerated cargo ship.
On January 10, 1954 Keno was united in marriage with Jeannette Ryan in Eagle Grove. He farmed and raised livestock west of Livermore until 1995. Keno sold Pioneer Seed for many years, was a member of the Humboldt County Cattleman's Association, served as a Humboldt County Supervisor for close to 20 years and he was a 75-year member of the Livermore American Legion. He enjoyed deer hunting, ballroom dancing and bowling league years ago and he was a premier bullhead fisherman. After retirement, Keno and Jeannette enjoyed wintering in Texas at the Pioneer RV Resort with their camper.
Left to cherish Keno's memory are his children, Erik (Brenda) Underberg of Livermore, Lisa (Mike) Hogan of Sioux Falls, SD and Sue (Kevin) Burt of Nevada; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 9 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Keno's name and directed to Otto-Field American Legion Post #415 of Livermore.
