Kent Douglas Borchert was born August 5, 1961, in Des Moines to Edgar and Marlene (Schrader) Borchert. Edgar and Marlene raised their children on the farm just west of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. The church and the farm were both very important to Kent. He was baptized August 20, 1961, and was confirmed in the church on May 4, 1974. Kent has always been active in the church, lending a hand where needed, serving as an elder, and leading the congregation in hymns. He loved growing up on the farm and working with his dad. In his later years, he loved tending to his garden and sharing the produce with everyone.
Kent began his career with the federal government in the mailroom in 1984, and retired as an Administrative Officer, overseeing three states, in 2018. In retirement, he enjoyed playing both cards and golf with his family and friends. He also loved attending his nieces' and nephews' events, watching StarTrek and old westerns, and supporting his favorite sports teams, especially the Cyclones.
Kent passed away at the Comfort House in Pella on May 19, 2025, after a six month battle with liver cancer. Kent will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the church. He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Borchert.
Surviving are his daughters: Briana Jo Agan Borchert and Abigail (Alex) Kissel; mother, Marlene Borchert; sisters: Brenda (Andy) Offenburger, Becky (Kevin) White, and Bonnie (Jeff) Roe; nieces and nephews; along with a host of relatives and friends.
