Kent G. Hanert was born August 2, 1935. Our cherished and beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend to so many, passed away into the arms of our Lord & Savior after a prolonged illness. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 29, 2025.
He was a long term resident of Moran, Michigan with a house on Brevort Lake. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Teaching from Wayne State University and a subsequent Masters degree in School Administration from the University of Michigan. He retired from a rewarding 35 year career with the Detroit Public Schools as a teacher and school administrator.
He enjoyed a long retirement including winters spent fishing the Pine Island, Florida area. Kent enjoyed all outdoor endeavors, particularly hunting, fishing, and gardening. Although always humble, Kent was a great athlete, achieving numerous medals and trophies playing baseball, volleyball, and nordic ski racing,
Kent was preceded in death by the love of his life of 70 years, Marlene "Bluebird" Hanert who passed away in May of 2024 and his beloved grandson, Eric Roese in 2005.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Gregg Hanert (Wife Kathie), of Grayling; daughter, Kendra Littlewood (Husband C.K.) of San Diego; daughter, Lisa Roese (Husband Robert) of Midland; 6 grandchildren, including Gavin Hanert of Newberry, Chelsea Schummer of St. Ignace, Brianna Evashevski of St. Ignace, Dr. Logan Hanert of Marquette, Jacob Roese of Midland, Hunter Littlewood of San Diego; and 5 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include brother, Fred Hanert of Brighton, and sister, Marthann Acker of Denver.
Kent was extremely family oriented and never missed a birthday or special event without a card or phone call. We celebrate a long life lived to the fullest, filled with countless, fabulous memories to be forever cherished! Cheers, until we meet again! As the Bible says...job well done, good and faithful servant.
