Known by his family and friends for his kindness, his loyalty, his sharp blue eyes and his love of food and fine cigars, Kent Francis Muhly, 83, a Baltimorean to the core, died after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease at his residence, Springhouse of Pikesville.
Kent was born in 1941 to John H and Doris Via Muhly. He was raised in the city of Baltimore with his younger sister. A 1961 graduate of Calvert Hall College, Kent served as a medic in the National Guard and worked for 40 years at John H. Muhly & Son, Inc. as a Master Plumber.
Kent and his wife Carolyn married in 1966 and raised their three children, Daniel, Jeremiah and Ramsay, in the Stoneleigh neighborhood of Towson. Many happy memories were made on Kingston Road.
Kent loved the ocean and watching all manner of sports. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of the waves, the Baltimore Colts, the Orioles and the Ravens with his children and his seven beloved grandchildren. He demonstrated for them all how to body surf and how to cheer loudly in the crowd, or at the television, with intense passion. The fields in (and around) Baltimore often found Kent & Carolyn cheering on children and grandchildren.
Kent was grateful to be sober for more than thirty years and though Parkinson's Disease ultimately kept him from meetings, AA (and the support he received and gave through the community) was very important to him.
Kent will be remembered for his friendliness and buoyant nature. He had a tendency to daydream and was often lost in thought but he thought deeply. We will always remember him expounding on hazards to avoid and his adventures big and small. We imagine him now navigating a new, amazing journey.
Kent was preceded in death by his wife of four decades, Carolyn Conkling Muhly, his parents John and Doris Muhly, his son John Davis Muhly and many dear friends. He is survived by his sons, Daniel K Muhly (Jamie), Jeremiah C Muhly, his daughter M. H. Ramsay McWhirter (Cameron), his sister Mary Elizabeth Wetzig (John), his grandchildren, D. Davis Muhly (Stacy), Abigail M. Staton (Huw), Willam J. "Liam" Muhly, J. Thomas Muhly, Blythe McWhirter, Devan Muhly, and Finn McWhirter. Kent was blessed with a great-granddaughter Harper Jane Staton.
