Kent C. Walter

Kent Cornell Walter passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born in Detroit on
March 8, 1938, to George and Jessie Walter. Kent spent his early years in Detroit before his family moved to
Berkley, where he graduated from Berkley High School in 1956.
In 1959, Kent proudly served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He began his career in
the automotive industry by joining the family business, Hawthorne Metal Products, where he worked for over
30 years. He later transitioned to a successful career in sales at Nakota Industries before retiring.
In retirement, Kent and Sandy spent their winters in Marco Island, where they made wonderful new friends,
enjoyed time on the beach, and loved to dance. Summers were spent taking great pride in caring for his
beautiful yard and pool, where he'd entertain family and friends, and vacations on the beach of Little Traverse
Bay. He also loved jogging, golfing with friends, traveling abroad, playing soduku, time with his grandsons, and
cheering on his beloved Detroit sports teams. Above all, Kent's greatest love was his family. He treasured every
moment spent with them.
Kent is survived by his wife, Sandra (Ferguson), his children, Stacey (James) and Derek (Gordon), and his
grandchildren, Griffin and Evan.
A visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a church service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, at
Birmingham First United Methodist Church, 1589 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, MI 48009. A private interment
will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital or the
USO.
