Kerry Elizabeth (Fluder) Setter, 35, of Rockford, passed away in her home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Kerry was born July 22, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois to Jerome and Wendy (Young) Fluder. She grew up in Chicago with her brother, Kevin, and cousin, Erica. She attended St. Therese Catholic School and Walter Payton College Preparatory High School. She graduated from Bradley University, where she met her husband, Eric. While teaching first grade at Willow Elementary School in Pekin, IL, she received her Master’s Degree from Illinois State University.
In 2016, Kerry took on her most fulfilling role as mother to Lydia. Kerry and her family moved to Rockford in 2018 where she began working for the Harlem School District. In 2020, Nora was born and completed a perfect family of four. Lydia and Nora were the light of Kerry’s life. She was creative and enjoyed crafting with the girls. Keeping up with a busy schedule was a challenge Kerry loved.
The countless tributes from former students and co-workers confirm that Kerry chose the perfect profession in education. She thrived on perfecting a presentation, helping a co-worker, translating data, enriching students, and mentoring others.
Kerry chose to fight breast cancer as privately as possible. If not for changes in her hair, most would never have known the nearly four-year battle she fought. Stories of her resiliency, strength and grace will always be shared with her daughters to remind them that their mommy was a warrior.
She is survived by her husband, Eric; daughters, Lydia and Nora; parents, Jerome and Wendy Fluder; in-laws, Lee and Andrea Setter; brother, Kevin (Maribel Cannella) Fluder; brothers-in-law, Andrew (Natalie) Setter and Adam (Jessica) Setter; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Mass will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave. with visitation one hour prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carbone Cancer Center or Lydia and Nora’s college funds via check made out to Eric Setter.
