We regretfully announce the passage of Kevin J. Rodden (Age 83) who passed away at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren while he was in hospice on September 22, 2023. Kevin struggled for several years with various health problems and cancer after leading a very active life including skiing into his 70s in Colorado and running in the senior Olympics in North Carolina prior to being diagnosed with cancer.
Kevin attended and graduated from Saint Joseph's Preparatory High School in Philadelphia, which was followed by his graduation from St. Joseph's University with a degree in physics. Upon graduation from college, Kevin worked at the National Security Agency for more than 30 years where he served his country with the majority of his career during the Cold War. Upon his retirement from the National Security Agency, he later worked for Northrop Grumman and TASC in the northern Virginia area for several years.
In his youth, he was passionate about basketball including playing at Saint Joseph's prep, and later in life learned to ski, which became a lifelong passion as well as other outdoor activities like hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and many others. He and his wife spent nearly a decade living in Summit County, Colorado, following his retirement to enjoy many of the activities in the Colorado Rocky Mountains that he loved so much. He also enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife and traveling around the US including visiting his two grown children and grandchildren.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents who had immigrated from Ireland to the United States before he was born along with seven other siblings of which only two remain alive. Kevin is survived by his brother and sister, his wife of more than 50 years, two sons, grandson, and granddaughter, and by marriage two daughter-in-laws.
Kevin will be interned at St. Andrews in Apex, North Carolina, and a remembrance and family gathering will held on Memorial Day 2024 in Philadelphia, where he grew up, with family, and friends.
He is sorely missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends and others who knew him. He led a remarkable life serving his country, but will always be known as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We hope he is resting in peace as he will always be in our hearts.
