Kevin Grant Smith came racing into the world 2 months early on November 1, 1961, continuing his love of speed until he raced through Heaven's gates on October 18, 2025. He met Debbie Stevens in 1979 and after their first date he asked her if she liked him because he planned on marrying her and it would work out better if she liked him. That cheesy line worked, and they were married on July 31st, 1981. When friends asked Debbie's dad if he loved his daughter, he replied "the only way he could love her more would be if she had chrome wheels"!
The next race began in 1983 when Kevin and Debbie had their first born, a daughter Tiffany Dawn, 2 years later a son Derek and 18 months later another son, Nick.
The Smiths moved to NW OK 1986 working for Mutual of Omaha until opening his own body shop for several years until joining the State Farm National Catastrophe Claims Team, moving the family back home to Muskogee area before racing across the US in service to those affected by catastrophic losses. His CAT team became his bonus family on the road making so many life long treasured friends. Kevin loved music and playing his bass guitar. He served as a youth sponsor at Enid First Assembly of God where he directed and produced a local cable show "Hard Rock Videos". The show won the best show award on the network. Kevin was well known for his love of cars and all things old and rusty. Kevin restored old cars and when his health prevented that he restored and collected new, vintage, and custom builds. The only things he treasured most were his beautiful granddaughters, Chloe (BooBear) and Lenna (LennaBug). If you talked to him for more than 10 minutes, you knew all about how amazing he thought that they were and probably saw a few pictures.
Kevin was known for quietly helping others, he would notice when people were struggling and would do whatever he could to assist without the desire for recognition. His sense of humor, most often skirting the line of appropriate, could bring light into the darkest of times.
Kevin was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, twin brothers, and 1 son. Kevin is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sister Michele Seek, sister in law Rita (Larry) Stonebarger, nieces Taylor (Tyler) Styker, Ashley Stonebarger, Tammie (Ryan) Anderson, Samantha (Tony) Cutler, Kimber Bretschneider, Trina Williams, nephews Richard (Michelle) Shook, Mark (Trina) Shook, Kevin (Daydreania) Shook, Zachary Stonebarger, Jeremy Bretschneider, Scott Bretschneider, sister in law Rita Stonebarger, brother in law Carl Bretschneider, numerous great nieces and nephews, and his treasured bonus bestie Carter Collins. Kevin loved his family, friends, coworkers, car buddies, church family, and most importantly God.
With his entire being Kevin came in fast, lived fast, and exited too fast with his arms raised to heaven where he is most likely customizing chariots in heaven with chrome wheels and custom paint.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday October 22, 2025 at Community Gospel Center in Fort Gibson with Pastor John Overton officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home from Noon to 8:00 pm with the family greeting friends beginning at 5:00 pm.
