Kimberly Shourds Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Kim Shourds, 53, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family on 1/5/2025, when she lost her battle fighting lung cancer after only 4 short months. Kim is survived by her husband of over 31 years David Shourds, her children Justin Huber (Maria), Jeffrey Huber and Kylie Huber; her father Joe Urick (Jean), sisters Lacey Keating (David), Lauren Thompson (Jason) and brother Craig Huber (Angie). She has many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, most importantly her cousin, who was like a sister, Diana Stankiewicz who served as Kim's medical advocate and end of life caregiver. She was preceded in death by her mother Twindle Huber, her stepfather Jeff Huber and all 4 of her grandparents. She held a special connection to her maternal grandmother Laura Lee Umphlett.
Kim was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and graduated from Currituck High School in North Carolina. She and David were married in 1993. They opened their home and hearts to take legal custody of her brother's three children when they were very young. Kim was a finance manager in the auto industry for most of her career, with her final job as an assistant manager for Professional Financial Services. Kim was a wild bird rehabilitator and meticulously cared for her birds at her home, she enjoyed gardening and all things politics. She was unapologetically passionate for her love for America and a true patriot. She made it her mission over the last nine years to "Make America Great Again" by working for and supporting many congressional, state candidates and most importantly President Donald J. Trump. She was a powerhouse campaign director for both Chuck Smith and Jerome Bell and made an impact to the political world. Kim called many of the representatives in Washington D.C. friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6901 Newport Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23505 on February 1, 2025 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to Connie Sale at Wildlife Response, Inc. 218 Scarlett Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia 23322. Email: [email protected] and Phone 757-482-4796. This is where Kim volunteered rehabilitating wild birds.
