In accordance with her wish cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be planned in early Spring. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association, c/o the funeral home.
Age 64, passed away at her home on December 16, 2023. She was born in Kalamazoo on June 8, 1959, the daughter of Eugene and Jacqueline (Doxey) Welch. Kim had a kind spirit and was a joy to know. She loved her family and her friends, and she will be missed by those who loved her. Kim graduated from Portage Central High School. She worked hard as an animal technician for Charles River Labs and also as a janitor for Portage Public Schools. When not working she loved spending time with her horse "Misty". She was an accomplished equestrian who specialized in Dressage. On June 8, 1989, she married Marvin Vander Meer who survives. She is also survived by four children, Amelia Vander Meer, Matthew Vander Meer, John (Mercedes) Vander Meer and Brandyn (Darrell) Lynch; a grandson, Ezekiel Lynch; mother, Jacqueline Welch; sister Patricia (Mark) Werner; two special nieces, Chelsea Wilbur and Wendi Welch; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in passing by her father Eugene Welch; a brother, Mike Welch; nephew Lucas, Tigchelaar.
