Kristy Trial Smith
April 27, 1976 - January 16th 2026
Kristy Trial Smith, 49, of Madison, Maine passed unexpectedly surrounded by family due to heart
complications on January 16th, 2026.
She was born in Skowhegan, Maine in 1976 to Peter E Trial and Shirley Quinn Trial. Kristy attended
Madison Area Memorial High School, before studying at Thomas College and then worked with Envision
Net which led her to move to Washington State.
Kristy was a breath of fresh air to every room she walked into. Family and friends were her most
important priority; the Seattle Seahawks were her second. Kristy had a love for sandy beaches, sunsets
and traveling around the country with her husband. Kristy dreamed of moving back home to Maine once
her son graduated, and she was able to make that move July of 2024. She and her husband found a
beautiful home in her hometown of Madison and was surrounded by family until the day she passed.
Kristy was very intelligent; she attended University Of Phoenix where she graduated with her Bachelor of
Science, and then going back to school at Edmonds Community College for her Paralegal Certificate.
Once back in Maine she knew she wanted to stay in the paralegal field and found a great job at Steve
Smith Trial Lawyers.
Kristy became an Elk's member where she enjoyed playing cribbage and bingo. As a true 'Trial' she
enjoyed puzzles, poker and doing tedious crafts as well. As a child Kristy was the youngest of 7 siblings
and often stated that her parents "stopped at perfection." She was a true daddy's girl and enjoyed
cheerleading and hanging out with friends she still has to this day.
Kristy was beloved by so many people, but one of the most important was her son Johnny Pete. The
amount of love that she had for him was immeasurable. The two of them formed such an incredible bond.
Kristy truly brought joy, happiness, and laughter to everyone she touched, and will be greatly missed.
Kristy is survived by her son John P Cloutier, husband Brad E Smith and his children LillyAnna Smith,
Trinity Nigro and Alex Smith and grandchildren Emilia and Laylah. Her siblings Peter Trial and wife Lou,
Mary Horton and husband Cliff. Ruth Perkins, Aaron Trial and wife Val. Her many nieces and nephews,
Brian, Nick, Cory and wife Tina, Ann-Marie and husband Jeremy, Jess and fiance Travis, Zack and wife
Cayla and Emily and spouse Keenan. Her close cousins Pete and Arlene, Linda and Frank.
Kristy was predeceased by parents; Peter E Trial and Shirley Quinn Trial. Brother; Mark Trial.
Brother-in-Law; Chester Perkins. Sister, Ann-Marie Trial. Nephews; Lance Perkins, and Jason Trial. Aunt;
Irene Catudal.
At Brad's request we would love for everyone to write down a memory that you have with Kristy and bring
it to the service with you so we can form a story book of her amazing life.
Kristy's service will be held at The Federated Church, 13 Island Ave, Skowhegan, Maine on February 7th,
2026 at 1pm. Food and Beverages will be at the Fellowship Hall after the service, we would love to have
everyone join for stories.
A lover of flowers, Kristy found joy in the color purple, with lilacs being her favorite if you chose to send.

Eric & I met Kristy in Jamaica. She had flown in from Seattle by herself and we were the only two from the large group that were there when she landed. I was given a picture of her from Val & Aaron & she was given a picture of us.
When we found each other, we immediately connected, laughed hysterically and got to know each other.
The vacation was grand one, especially with Kristy there that year.
A year later, after meeting Brad, she called and asked if she could stay overnight in Minnesota on their whirlwind driving journey from Seattle to Maine. We loved having them, broke bread together and enjoyed their brief visit.
I will always remember Kristy as a direct person, yet so funny & kind. She would be welcomed back to our home with open arms, and we would look forward to seeing her on vacation in Maine or Jamaica without a doubt. We love you Kristy, you little spitfire, you. You will be dearly missed.
Love, Meg & Eric

Oh my gosh, Kristy, I am completely at a loss for words. My heart hurts knowing you´re gone. When we were kids in Maine, we had so much fun together running around, getting into trouble, and just being kids. Those memories mean everything to me now. Thank you for all the laughter, the adventures, and the love you brought into my life. You were such a feisty woman, always saying exactly what you thought, never sugar coating a thing, and I loved you for that honesty. You were one of a kind. I am going to miss you more than I can put into words, and this just isn´t fair at all.

Kirsty Tree...where I I even begin. You were my very first friend when I moved to Maine in 87. I had just lost my dad and moving to a new state was extremely difficult, but you made everything better. We've been through a lot together over the years. Skipping school, shenanigans, your first wedding, my wedding and even all the losses you had to endure over the years. I NEVER thought I would have to do this one without you. I love you so much. This one hurts BIG. The Lord will have his hands full with you, Mark, Chet and Skeeter Peter. What was he thinking?! LOL. Until we meet again my friend. I love you always.
