Kyle Randall (Lee) Akins, born March 3, 1993, passed away December 10, 2023, after a 30-year valiant battle with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.
He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Akins; stepfather, Don Archacki; father, Jay Lee; grandparents, Paul and Loretta Akins and Harry and Sue Lee; aunt, Charlotte Reynolds; and cousins, Calla Wadley, Ashlee Wadley and Jack Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Clifford and Peggy Bailey and Ethel Martin and James Akins; cousin, Laurel Grace Reynolds.
Kyle was a lifelong member of Green Gospel Assembly Church and earned an Associate Degree in Business Management, graduating with honors. He worked at Out of the Box after graduating and volunteered at Hattie Larlham, where he read to the residents, as well as helping them learn how to use their computers. He had an unquenchable love of animals. Every day he used his computer to learn about new animals, which he shared with his family. He had many good friends, two of whom were Becky and Phil.
He had several excellent caregivers and nurse, Terri Butler who was by his side for 15 years. In the last 15 months of his life, he lived at Astoria Nursing Home and there, he wound his way into the hearts of many people. Thank you to everyone who was a part of Kyle’s life. Special admiration to his therapists, Dawn and Lisa; nurses, Erin and Jalisia; and the many wonderful aides who were always there for him. A special thank you to Brandon, who was exceptional and part of the nightly “dream team” according to Kyle, together with Lisa and Erin.
Kyle was a loving soul who always cared for others in the midst of his own suffering. He could always tell when someone was hurting or just needed to talk. He had a listening ear and a caring heart.
