LaKaylia Darcel Kea

LaKaylia Darcel 'Kay' Kea was born on September 26, 1997, to Kenneth Jerome Kea and Tamara Johnson (Wright). She departed from this world on November 24, 2024. In her early years, she was affectionately known as Kay-Kay, a name that reflected her vibrant personality and infectious spirit. Kay was a force of nature, always bringing joy and energy to those around her, and she certainly kept her siblings on their toes. She'd make sure that everyone was going to see and hear her.
Despite facing the challenges of lupus, Kay approached life with unwavering strength and determination. She was a dedicated student at Hazel Park High School, where she not only excelled academically but also thrived as a cheerleader. Her love for learning and connection with her classmates helped her forge lifelong friendships that became an integral part of her support system. Graduating with honors was a testament to her hard work and resilience.
Kay pursued her dream of attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, majoring in Sociology-a field that resonated deeply with her love for children and her innate compassion for others. Although she was set to graduate in May 2025, she will be honored with a Posthumous Honorary Degree, fulfilling her aspiration of becoming a U of M graduate. Kay is survived by her loving parents and her siblings, LaMarr Kyle Johnson Sr. and LaQuay Quinae' Johnson, along with her cherished paternal Grandma Flo.
She leaves behind a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends and associates-too many to name individually-each of whom held a special place in her heart. Kay's love for her family and friends was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Though her time with us was far too short, Kay's legacy of love, strength, and joy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
