Larae Leatham Stubbs Butler

LaRae passed away at the home of her eldest son Michael (Cheryl) Stubbs, surrounded by her family, on August 20, 2025, at the age of 90 years young. She was born one of five children to Steele N. and Mae B. Leatham in Logan, Utah on October 10, 1934. LaRae married Melvin C. Stubbs and they had four children; Christine (stillborn), Michael C. (Cheryl) Stubbs, Debbie (James) LaMantia, and John Stubbs. They were later divorced.

She then married James R. Butler and they were later divorced.

She enjoyed working at many different jobs in Weber County during her lifetime. For a few years, she even drove a semi-truck for C.R. England, traveling back and forth across the country many times. LaRae was a wonderful mother to her three children, and an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother. Everyone was always welcome into her home and enjoyed spending time with her, especially around Christmas time. Her home was a gathering point for many of us with lots of love, laughter and chatter. She always made everyone feel special and loved, without judgement. She always had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. She especially loved to tease and joke with her daughter-in-law Cheryl. She developed a special bond with Cheryl during her later years. The family would like to thank the staff at Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, especially her nurse Linda, for all the care, compassion and love they showed to Mom and her family.

LaRae is survived by her children, Michael (Cheryl) Stubbs, Debbie (James) LaMantia, and John Stubbs; grandchildren, Sarah (John) Pacheco, Shawn (Danielle) Stubbs, Amie (Greg) Doyle, Jeremy (Amy Berner) LaMantia, Kelli LaMantia, Rachel LaMantia, Mikayla LaMantia, Matthew Stubbs, Whitney Stubbs, and Brohdie Stubbs; many great and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jim (Deb) Leatham, Gary (Linda) Leatham, and Dean Leatham; and her loving dog and constant companion, Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Linda Strebel; her brother-in-law, Rex Strebel; and her sister-in-law, Donna Leatham.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., with James LaMantia presiding. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
