A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the Slater Lake. Those attending are encouraged to bring their fishing pole. Weiker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Born March 29, 1949 in Shackelford, he was the son of the late Ora and Gertrude Saylor Ballenger. On December 9, 1966 in Marshall, he married Carroll Coates, and she survives of the home.
Also surviving are five children, Debra Smith (Chuck) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Barbara Winston (Dale) of Slater, Larry Dale Ballenger, Jr. of Slater, Jessie Boley (James) of Glasgow, and Billy Ray Ballenger (Allison Frappier) of St. Louis; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Ballenger was a U.S. Army veteran. He had worked for the City of Slater, and Holiday Sands as a dredger, before his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union #663, and The Only Way Fishing & Golf Club. He served on the Slater Fire Department for fifteen years, and was an avid fisherman.
