Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home - TremontonLarry Kent Barfuss, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in West Valley City, Utah, at the age of 83.
Larry was born on December 22, 1941, to Charles Barfuss and Winifred Barnes in Tremonton, Utah. He grew up in Tremonton and graduated from Bear River High School in 1960. He served a mission to the Southern States, covering Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama, from November 1961 through November 1963. He loved his mission with all his heart.
Larry graduated from Utah State University in 1967 and later earned his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University. He was sealed to his sweetheart, Printha Ellen Brenchley of Wellsville, in the Logan Temple on August 4, 1964. Shortly after, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for several months before Larry was drafted into the army, where he served in the Vietnam War. Larry and Printha eventually settled in West Valley City, where they raised their family of five children.
Larry loved hunting and fishing. As a family, they camped almost every year in the Uinta’s at Teapot Lake or nearby. He also enjoyed playing card games, building puzzles, and joining in on family activities. He loved reading and faithfully kept up with church assignments. Larry became a 5th grade schoolteacher, spending the entirety of his 37-year career at Hillsdale Elementary School.
Throughout his life, Larry held many church callings, including serving as executive secretary to four bishops in succession. He was passionate about family history work and devoted much of his adult life to that work. He eagerly shared the information he discovered with his brothers and sisters at family reunions. He loved going to the temple to do the work for those who had passed on, and it brought him great purpose, especially in the years when he was separated from his sweetheart. Together with Printha, Larry served a full-time mission in the newly formed West Valley mission, followed by seven years of service scanning and digitizing books and periodicals for the church.
Larry loved the gospel of Jesus Christ with all his heart and never wavered in his testimony.
He is survived by his five children and seven grandchildren: Tonya Wariner (Clayton) with their children Trevor and Ava, Jodie Beerly (Rick) with their child Peyton, Ramie Barfuss (Lauren) with their children Jared, Ben, Tyler, and Gavin, Todd Barfuss, and Daniel Barfuss. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife Printha and all but two of his siblings. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd, 2025, at 1:30 PM with a viewing held prior from 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM at the Jordan North 5th Ward (3836 W 4100 S West Valley City, UT 84120). Interment in the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be found below.
