Larry Braidwood, 84, of Onaway, passed away on April 7, 2025. He was born in Grayling to Andrew and Mary (Cowper) Braidwood on April 3, 1941 (the 'baby' of three boys). He grew up in Onaway at the 'State House' on M-211 and graduated from OHS in 1959. Larry became a licensed electrician in 1969 and a master electrician in 1974. Larry worked most of his career as a foreman or in management in the electrical industry in Flint until he retired in 2000. At which time, he happily had "six Saturdays a week" and moved back up north to Black Lake.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, time at his cabin, farming with his tractors, boating, downhill skiing until age 79, and jeeping through the woods. An annual highlight was being in the Onaway parade in his 1946 Willy's Jeep.
Larry enjoyed traveling to faraway places which included Braidwood, Australia and Braidwood, Scotland, Europe, Alaska, much of the U.S. and skiing in Switzerland.
In his later years, viewing the sunset over the lake, monitoring his weather station, and watching the birds from his recliner helped pass the time. But the unparalleled bright spot of his day was the daily showing of Gunsmoke. Everyone knew not to interrupt him at 1 o'clock.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Noreen; daughter, Lynne (Kevin) Severt of Traverse City; and son, Eric (Theresa) Braidwood of Highland; grandchildren: Jordyn (Gregg) Elhart, Brady (Lindsay) Severt, Ellery, and Ally Braidwood; brother #2, Dick Braidwood; many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Lee & Peggy Hornberger, brother #1, Jim, and sister-in-law, Eunice Braidwood.
Larry's final resting place will be in Onaway at North Allis cemetery. Larry will be honored by a private family service at a future date.
