Larry Herbert Brustad passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at his home in Osakis, MN, at the age of 80. A graveside service to celebrate the lives of Larry and Judi will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis, MN.
Larry was born on February 26, 1945, to Roy and Yvonne (Collins) Brustad in Alexandria, MN. Following high school, Larry took a bold step by enlisting in the United States Air Force while living in Portland, OR. His service during the Vietnam War lasted six years, culminating in an honorable discharge in 1969. His military service was a source of pride for him and showcased his commitment to serving his country. Larry’s personal life was deeply enriched by his marriage to Judi Heaslet, whom he married in Phoenix, AZ, on December 7, 1968. The couple adopted their son, Eric, in Tucson, Arizona, in 1972, and together they raised him in various locations, including Atlanta, GA, and Eagan and Burnsville, MN. Larry was especially proud of his role as a provider. Larry built a commendable career as a Lead Crew Chief Mechanic, where he worked diligently at multiple airlines throughout his life. After retirement, Larry and Judi lived in Alexandria, MN, until Judi’s death in 2020. Shortly after, Larry moved to Osakis, MN, where he spent the rest of his retirement years near the lake.
A man of many interests, Larry had a particular fondness for classic cars and spent countless hours working on vehicles. He cherished his feline companions and took delight in the simple pleasures of life, such as indulging in candy—especially jelly beans. Larry enjoyed leisurely breakfasts at the VFW in Alexandria each Saturday and enjoyed fishing in his younger years. Additionally, he was active in a local military honors group, reflecting his continued dedication to service.
Larry is survived by his son, Eric (Amanda) Brustad; sister, Barbara Brustad; and cats, Pickles, Boo, Tinker, and Shadow. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judi Brustad; and parents, Roy and Yvonne Brustad.
