Mr. Larry Dwight Chalmers, age 72 of
Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, March 31, 2025, at his residence.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF LARRY DWIGHT CHALMERS
LARRY D. CHALMERS was born on February 11, 1953, in
Sanford, North Carolina, to the late Aretha Singletary and Charlie Chalmers. A proud alumnus of W.B. Wicker School, he carried his school spirit throughout his life.
LARRY honorably served his country in the United States Army, completing one tour of duty in Gehlhausen, Germany and two tours of duty during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His dedication to service and leadership extended beyond the military and into his community as a Veteran helping other retired servicemembers.
For 49 beautiful years, LARRY was devoted to his beloved wife, Phyllis. He was the calming spirit to her storm. Together, they built a loving home and raised two daughters, Tonya and Tiffany, who were the pride and joy of his life. His love for family was immeasurable, and he cherished his role as a grandfather to Miranda, Jacolby, Yukari, and Yescenia.
A man of deep faith, LARRY was an active member of Blandonia Presbyterian Church, where he served in numerous roles, including choir member, Elder, men's basketball coach, and mentor. His commitment to uplifting others, especially young people, was a guiding force in his life.
LARRY was also a dedicated member of the Sanford Lodge #101, the G. Wesley Allen Consistory, and the Khalif Temple #144, where he served as Honorary Past Potentate. His passion for sports and education was undeniable. He was an avid fan of sports and encouraged others to pursue their athletic and academic dreams.
Beyond his many commitments, LARRY found joy in cooking/grilling and sharing meals with his loved ones. Whether preparing a favorite family dish or cooking for a gathering, his kitchen was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious aromas of his favorite recipes.
He is preceded in death by his twin grandsons, Jacob and Joshua McKiver; and one brother, Willie Singletary.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Phyllis; daughters, Tonya Johnson (Dante) of Holly Springs, NC and Tiffany Chalmers of
Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Miranda, Jacolby, Yukari, and Yescenia; siblings, Robert Singletary, Beverly McLean, and Lynn McCormick of
Sanford, NC, Diane Singletary of Cleveland, OH and Gloria Smith (Charles) of Springfield, TN; uncles, Daniel Singletary of La'Porte, TX and Josiah Blue (Theresa) of Fayetteville, NC; and brothers-in-law, Carlton Andra Lee, James Bernard Lee, Chris Lee (Gloria), Wayne Lee, Robert Lee (Tonya), Charles Lee, and John Henry Diggs. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving in-laws, and long-time friends.
