Larry James Cheramie, 81, a resident of Raceland, Louisiana, and native of Morgan City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 26, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenda Rivet Cheramie, daughters Angella Callais (Chad), Cherri Slade Foret and Jaime Lynn Falcon (Kirby Jr.); Grandchildren Dr. Nicholas Callais (Abby), Noah Callais, Bryce John Foret, Maegan Chelette (Justin), Shelby Cheramie Gilbert (Robert), Dylan Anthony Falcon and Abby Lynn Falcon; Great Grandchildren Anna Claire Noelle Callais, Karter Hugh Foret, Eleanor Kate Callais and Grayson Nicholas Callais; Twin brother Jimmy Paul Cheramie and sister Yvonne Cheramie Stokes (Glenn).
He is preceded in death by his parents Angelette Nicholas Cheramie and Doris Champagne Cheramie.
Larry has lived an adventurous life of traveling all over the world for work and fun with his family. He specialized in Rotating Equipment in the Oil and Gas Industry. Larry was a 1964 graduate of Raceland High School where he excelled in Football and Track and Field. His classmates on the yearbook staff labeled him as “An affable and courteous gentleman.” He attended Delgado and lived in New Orleans for over a decade. Larry worked at Michoud Assembly Center on the Apollo Program building the Saturn V rocket, which took America’s astronauts to the Moon. He had a passion for aviation and aircraft design and inspired his daughter and grandchildren to learn to fly. He was an expert at giving driving directions, great advice, fixing everything and gardening. Whether it was a flower, tree, or bamboo shoot, he planted it. Larry never met a stranger. His extraordinary kindness, generosity and helpful spirit are his unforgettable gifts to all who were lucky enough to know him. He was a devout Catholic with a selfless heart. His greatest joy was sharing his many travels and treasures with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, May 30, 2025 at St Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Raceland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM with burial in the church cemetery.
The family would like to deeply thank the care teams of Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans and Haydel Memorial Hospice for their truly compassionate and loving care.
