Irma Marie Cheramie, 93, a native of Cut Off and resident of Galliano passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 23th, 2025.
Mrs. Irma is survived by her children: James Cheramie, Jr. (Mary), Cheryl C. Guidry (Jackson), Cecile B. LaFleur (Ricky); grandchildren: Jody Johnson (Carissia Gregoire), James Cheramie III, Anita Pittenger (Chris), Heidi Cheramie, Soliska Cheramie, Elise L. Rabalais (Mitchell), Lindsey LaFleur, Alicia C. Collins (Jordan); great grandchildren: Gavin Johnson (Aaron), Mia Sigue (Tyler), Maci Johnson, Lelia Taylor, Christopher Cheramie, Caden Hunter, Wyatt Collins; great great grandchildren: Paxton Pellegrin, Jamerson Sigue, Benson Sigue, Olive Cheramie, Asher Pittenger; step grandchildren: Jackie P. Guidry, Jamie G. Eymard, Xavier Myers Jr.; step great grandchilden: Timberlyn “Worm” Meaux, Topher Pittenger, Taysom Eymard, Megan Guidry, Louis Eymard III, Kaitlyn Eymard; daughter-in-law: Susan G. Cheramie; brother: Jeffery Cheramie (Evelyn); and sister in law: Gertie Cheramie.
Mrs. Cheramie was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years: James Cheramie Sr.; son: Chris Cheramie; parents: Noemie Bruce Cheramie and Ebdon Cheramie; brother: EJ Cheramie; sister: Willa Mae Boudreaux; father in law: Renis “Frank” Cheramie; mother in law: Vivian Duffy Cheramie; brothers in law: Larbow Cheramie and Jack Cheramie.
Mrs. Cheramie was very active at St. Joseph Catholic Church serving as a Lector, Commentator, and Extra Ordinary Minister, in the Cursillo Movement, a member of the South Lafourche Cajun Festival, a board member of the St. Joseph Recreation Center, a board member and secretary of Catholic Community Center for 35 years, and was recognized by the Diocese of Houma Thibodaux for exceptional volunteer service at the Catholic Community Center, she was a member of Catholic Daughter for 53 years serving as regent and vice regent, belonged to the Bereaved Parents of the USA St. Louis Chapter, and was Queen Nereid II. Mrs. Irma has many proud moments in her lived always bragging on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One of her favorite bragging moments was her beating Chef John Folse at The Bridge City Gumbo Festival for her chicken and sausage gumbo.
Her family would like to thank the ACG Hospice, Lindsey, Lacy, Callie, Abby, Meghan, CNA Patrice, and Collette and Deacon Jim for offering support and care to her and her family during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Falgout Funeral Home on Friday, March 28th, 2025 from 5:00 pm till 9:00 pm and at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 from 9:00 am until service time. Mrs. Cheramie’s Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am with procession following to her burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
