Larry Leon Culp of Granbury, TX passed away June 10, 2024.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00AM at Granbury Church of Christ, 1905 W. Pearl Street, Granbury, TX 76048.
Larry grew up in Sikeston, Missouri and graduated from Sikeston High School in 1963. While there, he developed a great love of music. He perfected his musicianship in high school and later in both the U.S. Air Force Marching Band and U.S. Air Force Band of the West at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas where he played the trumpet. While serving, he was a Procurement Specialist. This experience set him up for success as he entered the workforce, purchasing medical equipment and supplies and developing new systems used in major hospital groups nationwide including St. Johns Medical Hospital (now known as Mercy Hospital) in Springfield, Missouri and Salina, Kansas, Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, Harris Hospital (now known as Texas Health Group), Shumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Larry retired from Cook Children's Physicians Network in Fort Worth, Texas in 2018 after having worked there for over 21 years. As a father he shared his love of baseball and music. In the 80's, he refurbished his beloved trumpet for his son to use, and then it was passed down to his grandson who is still using it today. He prided himself in the weekly online trumpet and trombone lessons with his grandsons in North Carolina. Larry and Bobbie met each other while working at Cook Children's Hospital. Bobbie worked in the Security Department and Larry first saw her in the employee cafeteria. In 2015 they were married and Larry became a cherished part of the family. Larry and Bobbie moved to Granbury, TX the summer of 2021. He enjoyed singing with the Granbury Civic Choir where he was blessed to have a featured solo in their most recent spring concert and where he also performed with his daughter and granddaughter (three generations in the same choir). Outside of music, he spent 20+ years riding horses, fishing, playing golf, taking long car drives to visit new places, attending family and class reunions, spending time with Bobbie and enjoying a good game of cards. He was actively involved in the Granbury community. This included being a member of the Granbury Church of Christ, serving in the First Responders lunch on Team 4, attending the Victory Bible Class and participating in John Jones Life Group where he developed many close friends. Larry was a member of the Granbury Country Club where he greatly enjoyed playing golf with friends several times a week.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Culp and Pearlie Mae Choat and by his son, John Brian Culp.
Survivors include wife, Bobbie Culp of Granbury, Texas, brother Bill (Saralyn) Culp of Sikeston, Missouri, sister Patty Harrole of Dyer, Indiana, daughter Lorri Leigh (David) Lewis of Joshua, Texas, step-sons David (Melanie) Engle of Edmond, Oklahoma and Michael (Amy) Engle of Bethany, Oklahoma. The many grandchildren he loved and was proud of: Leighann Lewis, Kimberleigh (Dustin) Street, Emmaleigh Lewis, Nataleigh Lewis of Joshua, Texas, Ian and Westley Culp of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Elizabeth Culp mother of Ian and Westley, Mathew (Jessica) Engle, Kasey (Adyson) Engle, Logan (Makayla) Engle, Kassidy Engle, and Kailey Engle of Edmond, Oklahoma, Feliesha, Caleb and Connor Engle of Bethany, Oklahoma, and last but not least, great-grandson Jamison, of Edmond, Oklahoma.

I worked with Larry for 18 years before he retired and he was a true gentleman. He had a big heart, great smile, loved his family and his church. The stories he would tell about his life and family were great. I could always count on Larry. He will be missed.
