Larry Eugene Deakins

Larry Eugene Deakins, age 90, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 31, 1934, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of Wetzel Conrad "Rip" and Carrie Mae (Fliger) Deakins. Larry was a 1952 graduate of Amity High School and worked numerous years for Mansfield Plumbing and Cooper Energy Services.
He was a lifetime member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge, thirty-year member of the Knox County Coon Hunter and Gambier Fishing Club. Many have proclaimed Larry as the "Official" Mayor of Amity. For the most part, Larry was a "simple man" as he liked to hunt, fish, take care of his vegetable garden, can, turtle hunt and watch Nascar. On Friday's, he always enjoyed his one Old Milwaukee at the Moose lodge, but nothing was more important to Larry than the quality time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sue (Styers) Deakins, his children, Tracy (Trudy) Deakins of Mount Vernon and Tiffany (Darrell) Cagnon of Mount Vernon, nine grandchildren, Sarah Deakins, Alissa Deakins, Heidi Deakins, Hannah Bade, Nolan Deakins, Dane Ferenbaugh, Kana (Mathew) Adrian, Ashton (Amanda) Cagnon and Molly Cagnon, ten great grandchildren and his sister, Janet Mayer of Cleveland.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by a son Mark Deakins, a daughter, Kimberly Johnson, a granddaughter, Brooke Deakins, and a sister, Jeannine Kern.
Friends may call on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.
Memorial contributions in Larry's name may be made to the Gambier Fishing Club.
