Larry Gilstrap Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broussard's Mortuary - Silsbee on Mar. 25, 2025.
Larry Dean Gilstrap, 64, of Silsbee, died on Monday, March 17, 2025. After graduating from New Caney High School, Larry spent some time in California and traveled all around the U.S. in a school bus that he remodeled. Larry returned to Texas in 2003 and started Lawrence Construction LLC. Upon retirement, he turned his company over to his son, Justin.
Larry was a master craftsman who often charged less than he should have. He was an active volunteer for the Beaumont Triangle Area Network for many years. Larry was a caregiver to family members and friends and helped many people throughout his life. He was a loving father and great role model for the three young boys whom he raised as his own. He was also a loving son, brother, grandfather, husband, and friend who will be missed by all. Larry and his husband enjoyed fishing, boating, biking, listening to music and going to concerts together. Larry enjoyed reading and was an avid, accomplished gardener who talked to his plants every day. He was a fabulous and adventurous cook who liked to try new ingredients far outside the mainstream. His favorite activity was spending time with the grandkids; Annabell, Olivia, Aiden, and Moley. Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, compassionate heart, wealth of knowledge, and great sense of humor.
Larry is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Ruth Baker, and her husband, William Baker; and his father, Teddy Gilstrap. He is survived by his husband, Phillip Potter; three sons, Justin and Brandon Dunham and Eddie Knight; seven grandchildren, Annabelle, Aiden, Olivia, Moley, Evelyn, Rosalee, and Gatlin. He is also survived by three sisters, Timey Cole, Lavonne Mullens, and Sandra Coborn.
A gathering of Mr. Gilstrap's family and friends will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

You were a kind soul and will be missed. Also I appreciate all the work you did on my house; you were a skilled carpenter. I also always thought you were handsome.
