Larry Ray Hoffmann, age 76 of Litchfield, husband of Karen Hoffmann, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at his home due to heart complications, and was surrounded by his loving family. As a faithful Christian, Larry faithfully believed in the importance of love and forgiveness, living his life by the sentiment, “Always remember to forgive; it’s the greatest love you can give or receive”.

Larry was born on April 2nd, 1948, to Norbert and Doris (Meier) Hoffmann in Sleepy Eye, MN and was baptized on April 28th, 1948 at The Church of St. Michael, Morgan, MN by Father Schladweiler. He received his First Communion at St. Columban Church in Greenleaf Township by Father Francis Garvey and was confirmed on June 14th,1961 by Bishop Alphonse J. Schladweiler. Larry graduated from Cosmos High School in 1966. In 1967 he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam. He earned many honors while serving and was honorably discharged in 1971. Larry then ran the family farm with his dad until he purchased it, where he raised pigs. Later, he managed the Litchfield VFW Post 2818, as well as being Post Commander (1975-76) & (1991-92), and was an employee at Midwest Metal Works. His strong work ethic and friendly demeanor made him a cherished colleague.

Larry married the love of his life, Karen Arlene Gilberts on December 1st,1979 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, Hutchinson, MN and together they raised their three children, Timothy, Andrew, and Karlene.

Larry was actively involved with his community- he was a dedicated member of St. Philip Church, Litchfield, Knights of Columbus Council 2029, Disabled American Veterans, Cosmos Legion 126, Litchfield VFW Post 2818, Vietnam Lastman’s Club, and Litchfield Marine Corps League. He enjoyed Thursday morning breakfast with his military buddies. Larry was a man of few words but many actions, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His strong faith and commitment to his loved ones never wavered, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Larry always enjoyed fishing with his family and friends and would often go to Canada or Devil’s Lake ND, where a lot of happy memories were made by all. He loved gardening and playing card games, especially cribbage. He also was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan. Above all, Larry treasured spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always cherishing the moments they shared together.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Karen; children, Tim (Robin) Hoffmann, Andy (Samantha) Hoffmann, and Karlene (Tyler) Wallace; grandchildren, Cullen (Mackenzie) Hoffmann, Sydni (John) Salzl, Samuel Hoffmann, Courtney (Eric) Lamm, Drew Hoffmann, Allison Hoffmann, Gunner Olson, Hayden Olson, Willa Wallace, Doriey Wallace, and Mathew Wallace; great-grandchildren, Teddy Salzl and Ava Lamm; former daughter-in-law, Melissa Hoffmann; siblings, Judy Read, Linda (Dennis) Ruzicka, Lois Chalupsky, and Jeff Hoffmann; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Gary) Stone, Carol (Jim) Borg, and Debbie Gilberts; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends. 

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Norbert and Doris Hoffmann; parents-in-law, Archie and Dorothy Gilberts; his sister, Myra Stueber; and brothers-in-law, Mark Stueber, Ken Read, and Algene Gilberts.

 A memorial service for Larry will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield at 11:00AM with Father Mike Doyle officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 and will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Columban Cemetery, Litchfield, MN
