Larry Stephen Hovey, known affectionately to all as Larry, embarked on his final adventure on November 30, 2024. Born on June 21, 1942, in the bustling city of Houston, Larry was a man who lived life with enthusiasm.
Larry's journey from Houston to Austin was as colorful as his personality. He met the love of his life, Jo Ann, and together they became the dynamic duo of entrepreneurship, launching Austin Bindery Service, a place where printed paper met its match -- over the course of many late nights of colorful language talking to uncooperative production machines.
Larry studied business administration at Texas State University. He was the kind of guy who could calculate profits and losses while simultaneously planning his next fishing trip. He had a mind for business and a heart for adventure.
As a father, Larry loved to tell stories and jokes. Ivan and Jana, his beloved son and daughter, were the perfect audience for his comedic timing, and they inherited his zest for life. His sister Suzanne and late sister Lynda grew up with his antics. His grandchildren and great grandchildren, Erick, Juni, Jamison, Chloe, and Gavin, were the ever-willing apprentices to his shenanigans and, along with his daughter-in-law Heather, learned the art of making a fish on the pole look ten times bigger by holding the camera just right.
Larry's interests were anything but idle. An extreme water skier before wakeboarding was cool, he carved through the water like a hot knife through butter, leaving a wake of awe and a collection of trophies that could rival a museum exhibit. Larry was also an ace at archery, proving that whether it was a bow or a boat, he could hit the target with precision and flair.
The fish in Texas waters breathed a collective sigh of relief upon hearing of Larry's passing, as they knew they had lost a formidable adversary. He could fish like he was born with gills, and his tales of the one that got away were the stuff of legend - the stories growing funnier and the fish larger with every retelling.
Larry was a man of the outdoors. When he wasn't on the water, he could be found on land, enjoying a hunt or teaching grandkids the art of not walking directly into tree branches while attempting to move silently through the brush.
Larry's life was a testament to the joy of living. His absence will be felt deeply, like the silence after the punchline, but the echoes of his mirth will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Jo Ann, Ivan, Heather, Jana, Suzanne, Erick, Juni, Jamison, Chloe, and Gavin will carry on his legacy of love, laughter, and the occasional well-timed joke.
As we say goodbye to Larry, we imagine him skiing across the celestial waters, fishing rod in one hand, bow in the other, and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He leaves behind a world a little less bright but infinitely more joyful for having known him.
So, here's to Larry Stephen Hovey, a man who lived fully, laughed heartily, and loved deeply. May his stories continue to inspire chuckles and his memory be a beacon of happiness. The curtain may have closed on Larry's time with us, but the show he put on will play in our hearts forever.
Services will be held Saturday, January 4th at 2p at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, TX 78613.
