Larry G. Kepple, age 73, of rural Stonefort, IL passed away suddenly at 9:29 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in Deaconess Illinois Medical Center of Marion, IL.
He was born on September 12, 1951 at home in Greenbrush Township of Warren County, IL the son of Ralph Edward and Irene V. (Colclasure) Kepple.
Larry attended school in Plymouth, IL and was a graduate of Plymouth High School Class of 1969. He continued his education at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, IL where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education. Later after he had been working for a while he went back to Southern Illinois University and received his Master's Degree in Biological Sciences. He also pursued his Doctorate Degree in Health Education and the only thing remaining was writing his thesis to complete.
He was united in marriage to Vicky Lee Heiple on June 8, 1974 in Murphysboro, IL and together they have shared over 50 years of marriage.
Early in his working career after receiving his Bachelor's Degree he began teaching at Green Valley Junior High School of Green Valley, IL for 1 year. After that he went to work at the Radio Shack store in Peoria, IL where he was the general store manager for 5 years. He then went back to teaching at Louisville, IL High School teaching science for 3 years. It was after this, he went back to college and received his Master's Degree and soon after that began teaching at Herrin, IL High School teaching science for 17 years until he retired. He didn't stay retired long. He began working at the Mulberry Center, a part of Harrisburg Medical Center in behavioral health for 5 years until the end of December of 2024.
He was a member of the National Education Association.
In his spare time, he loved studying Astronomy and enjoyed using his telescope looking at the constellations. He also was an avid reader especially enjoying reading science fiction. He also enjoyed working outside at his home over the years and had completed many projects that he was proud of.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky L. Kepple of rural Stonefort, IL; son, Kevin W. Kepple and his wife, Joji of Bryan, TX; granddaughter, Lillian Hart of West Des Moines, IA; step-granddaughter, Sheansy, of Iloilo, Philippines, three brothers, Terry Kepple and his wife, Mary of Canton, IL, Robert Kepple of Avon, IL and Richard Kepple of Richland, MO; brother-in-law, Ron Heiple and his wife, Terri of Carterville, IL, sister-in-law, Teresa Bryant, of IL, and other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irene and Laverne Heiple.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
In accordance with his wishes there will not be any public service held at this time.
