OPELOUSAS - A Funeral Service for Larry K. Massamore will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:00a.m.at the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m.until the time of service. Pastor Donald Bryan of First Pentecostal Church (Slidell) will officiate. A burial will follow at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings, Louisiana.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00a.m.at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623.
Larry was born on March 1, 1948, in Bartley, West Virginia, and went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2025. He graduated from Monroe High School (Monroe, MI) in 1966, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and served honorably from 1966 to 1970, receiving a Top-Secret Cryptographic clearance. He served as an intercept operator during the Vietnam War while stationed in the Philippines. He finished his USAF service at the Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He re-enlisted in the US Army in 1990 as an Infantry NCO, taught at the Fourth Army NCO Academy, and received the Army Commendation Medal. Larry always sought after opportunities and pursued further education, earning his Associates of Applied Science in Manufacturing/Mechanical Technology, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Management, and Master of Science in Industrial Technology.
Larry was a lifelong Christian, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He loved the Bible and often said “Christians should be the happiest people in the world because they have the most to look forward to.” Shirley Roark married Larry on January 23, 1970, their love story began when their paths crossed at the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Together they raised three children, and now have seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and another on the way. Larry believed in unconditional love, and he indeed loved his wife and children unconditionally.
Larry loved to practice his marksmanship skills and participated in the National Matches at Camp Perry Ohio. He was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Larry is survived by his wife 55 years, Shirley Roark Massamore; sons, Mark Massamore and Paul Massamore; daughter, Katie (Bradley) Hoffmann; grandchildren, Shelby (Josh) Jenkins, Alisyn Massamore, Marie (Aaron) Auter, Kaydence Hoffmann, Ava Pavlis, Gage Hoffmann, Hailey Pavlis; great-grandson, Andrew Auter; in-laws, Susan Massamore, Elaine (Fred) Turner, Duane (Roxanne) Roark, Lisa (Bill) Sweeney; nieces and nephews, Heather (Mike) Heronemus, Shannon (Tom) Lehsten, Tim (Lisa) Chumley, Brian (Jennifer) Chumley, Gine (Lee) Oglesbee, Brian (Beverly) Turner, Ken (Katrina) Turner, Sarah (Adam) Tipton, Dustin (Shelby) Roark, Dalton (Moriah) Roark, Samantha Sweeney and Heather (Nick) Dunny.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis C. and Margaret Massamore; brother, James E. Massamore; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry and Jeanette Roark; in-laws, Jerry and Vivian Chumley; and nephew, Matthew Sweeney.
The Pallbearers will be Mark Massamore, Bradley Hoffmann, Gage Hoffmann, Aaron Auter, James Pavlis, Ashton Faulk, and Ethan Smith.
