Larry Mearl Ogea, 83, of Lake Charles, passed away on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at a local hospice following an extended illness.
Larry was a native and life long resident of the Lake Area, having been born in Gillis and graduating from Landry Memorial High School in 1959. He attended McNeese State University where he played football. Larry honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Army. Following his duty serving in the Army, Larry began a career in pipefitting at Vista (now Sasol) Chemicals, having retired in 1999 as the Tool Room Supervisor following 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed fishing and watching football, especially when his sons and grandsons were members of the team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Thomas and Audrey Reeves Ogea; his beloved wife, Lynda Aline Stoddard Ogea and son, Lonny Glenn Ogea. Those left to honor and cherish his memories are his children, Lance Ogea (Missy), Lake Charles; Lisa Ogea Davis (Ron), Houston; Laura Ogea Richards (Dale), Moss Bluff; daughter-in-law, Amanda Hurlbut Ogea, Lake Charles; grandchildren, Tara Hogoboom (Trevor), Grant Davis (Faith), MacKenzie Davis Moll (Monroe), Jason Richards, Taylor Richards, Marshall Richards, Hannah Ogea Qualls (Carter), Emma Ogea, Cole Ogea, and Grace Ogea; three great grandchildren, Cohen Richards, McKenna Hogoboom, Scarlett Hogoboom and one on the way.
Larry spent the last ten years of his life with his girlfriend Linda Massey who he cherished. She is an amazing lady that brought moments of joy to each and every day. Larry's family truly appreciates the compassion, care and companionship she provided to their father. She will forever be a member of the family.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday January 19, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and will continue on Saturday January 20 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
