Larry, 79, of Pineville, passed from this life on June 10th 2025, at his residence. Larry was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on March 9, 1946 at Rapides General Hospital. He graduated from Pineville High School in 1964, during which time he was a member of the track team and received many recognitions. After high school, he pursued advanced degrees in Sociology (BA), Social Work (MSW/LCSW), and Management (MA). Larry enjoyed a fulfilling career that included the Adolescent Unit at Central State Hospital, Manager at Shreveport Mental Health Center, Rapides Chemical Dependency Unit, then later retired from RRMC as the Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program. He additionally contracted with the Leesville Developmental Center.
Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pineville. He enjoyed Cajun dance classes with his wife and the friends they met along the way. Larry wanted it mentioned that he did not care for hunting and fishing, nor was he an avid sportsman. He did, however, enjoy watching his two grandsons playing baseball and football. Larry also enjoyed staying informed on current world events, consumer reports, and the latest car trends. He was the one that many would call before big purchases for advice. Larry's personality included a quick wit with a dry sense of humor. He often was a man of few words, but when he spoke, they held value and power. He found fulfillment in taking care of others. He will be greatly missed.
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Thomas Earl Owen and Sarah Coker Owen.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 28 years, Nita Taylor, his daughters Amanda Owen White (Lance), Susan Owen Coburn (Jacob), grandsons Preston and Emmett Coburn, two sisters Gail Owen Arledge and Sally Owen Strebig, two stepdaughters Christie (Doc) and Jessica, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved lifetime friends.
Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed at Joint Security Area Pan Mun Jom Korea and the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station in Oakland, California. He often commented the temperature fell to 20 degrees below zero while living in a tent in the mountains of Korea. Thus, he did not want to be buried in the cold ground (part of his sense of humor). Following his service, he will be cremated at his request.
