Larry Gene Schmitt

Larry “Schmitty” Schmitt of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away at his home on November 16, 2024. He was 79 years old. Larry was born in Great Bend, Kansas. He always said it was Bend, Kansas and when he was born it became “Great” Bend. He was born to Lawrence and Lucy Hain Schmitt.

Larry attended Hobbs High School and New Mexico Junior College, as well as Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting. Some of the places he worked included Bonner Lease Service in Seminole, Texas, Snyder Ranch, and LS Accounting. He served in the Navy from June 12, 1963, to June 11, 1967. Larry married Jo Gaye Schmitt on July 30, 1999. Larry enjoyed playing golf.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Billy & Tommy Schmitt, sister Patti as well as several aunts and uncles that he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife of the home Jo Gaye, daughter Amy (Jason), daughter-in-law Zana, grandchildren Landon, Abigail, Emalynn, Amanda, and Aiden, brothers Kenny(Susan), Marvin (Suzie), nephews Ryan (Christina), and Ty (Linda), nieces Serina (Owen), and Colleen, father-in-law Wayne Doty, sister-in-laws Karen Gore and Kathy Schmitt, and brothers-in-laws David Doty and Donald Doty.
