SIGOURNEY-Larry Bruce Schroeder, age 85, of Sigourney, died Sunday, August 11, 2024, at his home.
Larry was born June 14, 1939, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Martin and Eunice (Arp) Schroeder. He attended school in Williamsburg until third grade and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1957. On June 15, 1958, he married Marilyn Davis at Lancaster Christian Church. The couple made their lifelong home in Sigourney. Larry worked from fifth grade through graduation for the 7UP Company warehouse in Sigourney then he drove the route truck for 7UP. He volunteered his time to run the jaws of life for the Keokuk County Ambulance Service for 12 ½ years. Larry also worked many years at the Ford garages for Utterback Ford, Arthur Goettsch and Wagler Motors as a mechanic and later shop foreman before he decided to build his own shop (Larry’s Alignment) in 1978. Larry retired in 2008 and sold the business to his son Randy and his wife Jody Schroeder. He was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed collecting and rebuilding pedal cars and tractors and restoring antique cars. He also loved traveling to Florida for the Daytona races for 42 years and socializing with his friends.
Survivors include his wife: Marilyn of Sigourney; two sons: Randy (Jody) Schroeder of Montezuma and Terry (Missy) Schroeder of Sigourney; four grandchildren: Andrew (Lexi) Schroeder, Ashley (Zach) Schroeder, Brooke (Drew) and Ally Schroeder; three great grandchildren: Reagan, Ryann and Raxton and sister: Jan Crissman of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Bruce Allen Schroeder in May 1979.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
