Larry Seitz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dahlonega Funeral Home on Dec. 1, 2025.
Larry Dean Seitz

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Larry Dean Seitz, 72, of Dahlonega, Georgia, on Thursday, November 27, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1953 in Chamblee, Georgia, but spent most of his life as a resident of Lumpkin County.

Larry graduated from Lumpkin County High School in 1971 and North Georgia College in 1982 with a degree in biology. He also earned a teaching certificate in secondary education and taught biology and other sciences at Lumpkin County High School for 15 years. He is fondly remembered by the many students he taught and coached.

Larry went on to run a successful horse boarding business, Springer Mountain Stables. Along with running the business, he lovingly cared for the beautiful property that has resided in his family for generations. His happy place was spending time on the land: by tractor, lawn mower, or horse-back; and taking his wife, Carol, and their many grandchildren for rides on his side-by-side.

Larry was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church where he devoted his time as a deacon, member of the choir, and worked with the youth.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Green Seitz; son, Jason Seitz and wife Jennifer; daughters Tracy McKinney (Austin), Gretchen Gentry, and Stephanie Clifford (Nathan), all of Dahlonega, Georgia. He will be deeply missed as "Pa" by his seven grandchildren who adored him: Carly and Coltrane Seitz, Will and Jack McKinney, Abby Kay Gentry, and Samuel and Hudson Clifford. He, along with Carol "MeeMa", was their biggest fan and supporter in all of their endeavors. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Hutcheson, of Bowling Green, Kentucky and his brother, Stan Seitz, of Dahlonega; in-laws David Green, Eddie and Denise Green, and Mark and Cindy Green, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Harold "Dean" and Carmen Seitz, his brother Robert "Bobby" Seitz, and son-in- law, Craig Gentry, all of Dahlonega.

Larry will be missed and remembered for his sense of humor, work ethic, and magical fishing abilities, but most importantly for the way his generous, steady and loving presence filled the lives of his family and all who knew him.

The family will receive family, friends, and members of the community during a visitation on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Dahlonega Baptist Church Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CHP Anne Green Free Clinic in Dahlonega, Georgia.
