SHAFER, Larry Earl - Age 85, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Fenton, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via Larry's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Howell. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 3-8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Larry was born November 11, 1939, in Goodrich, the son of Harold E. and Clara L. (Washburn) Shafer. He was a 1958 graduate of Davison High School. He married Jacquelyn King May 12, 1962, and she preceded him in death March 12, 2007; he then married Linda Gibbons November 6, 2011, in Hawaii.
Larry was the proud owner and operator of B&J Tool in Fenton for 21 years, retiring in 2007. Larry moved from Fenton MI to Estill Springs, TN in 2017 fulfilling his dream of living on a lake. He then moved to Gallatin, TN 3 years ago. He enjoyed winters in Mesa, AZ with Linda where he played a lot of shuffleboard, ladder golf and bingo.
Larry earned his Eagle Scout award in 1953. In his adult life, Larry was known as Mr. Fixit helping anyone who needed it. He loved traveling in his motorhome seeing the United States from coast to coast. Larry had 2 classic cars, enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, boating and was an avid hunter. His love of hunting took him all the way to New Zealand.
Surviving are: his wife, Linda Gibbons-Shafer of Gallatin, TN; daughters, Daphne (Michael) Briley of Hendersonville, TN and Annette (Donald) Miller of Murfreesboro, TN; Step-son Joel Gibbons of Boynton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Miller, MacKenzie Briley and Gabrielle Miller; sister, Darlene Smith of Flint; sister-in-law, Roberta Shafer of Davison; and many loving family members and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara Shafer; brothers, Lawrence (Bob), Sherman, Max, Bruce, and Harold (Bud) Shafer; sisters, Shirley Shaffer, Frances Skellenger and Maxine McArthur; granddaughter, Layne Marie Briley. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
