Larry E. Shaffer, age 65, longtime resident of Shiloh, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2025 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born on August 1, 1959 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Kenneth S. and Dorothy L. (Porter) Shaffer.
A Plymouth High School graduate, Larry went on to work at Shafer Valve as a machinist. He would later retire from Newman Technology where he worked in the shipping department. Larry was a member of SAL -Post 503 and enjoyed fishing and producing products on his 3D printer at home.
Larry was a hardworking, kind-hearted man who loved his family fiercely and lived life with passion - especially when it came to riding his Harley-Davidson. That bike wasn't just a motorcycle to him - it was his freedom, his peace, and his pride. He loved the open road, and nothing made him happier than riding under the sun with the wind in his face with his friends Tom and Denny by his side.
A devoted family man, Larry was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed making his grandchildren toys on his printer, now keepsakes they will forever cherish. His entire family meant the world to him and he left a legacy of love, compassion and a little bit of fun they will all remember him by.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margie (Reiter) Shaffer who he married on May 13, 1978; two daughters, Nichole Hamilton and Trisha Yoho; nine grandchildren, Jordan Hamilton, Kashten Gardner, Kaleah Gardner, Marlee Hamilton, Marcus Hamilton, Bryce Yoho, Eddie Yoho, Jake Yoho and Chloe Shaffer; three sisters, Kate Means (Jeff Clabaugh), Cheryl Howard and Pam (Ron) Reber; mother-in-law, Barb Reiter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pam (Jim) Morris, Laurel (Will) Hicks, Cherié (Doug) Cordray, and Chad (Kit) Reiter; numerous nieces and nephews; Tom and Denny Simmons, who were like brothers to Larry; and special riding friend, Steve Kershner.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Johnie Deskins; father-in-law, Charles Reiter Sr.; and mother-in-law, Kay E. Salyers.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ohio on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family would be honored if you would join them at 8:00 p.m. as they bid farewell, for now, to their husband, father, papa, son, brother and friend. Larry's family asks that you come dressed to ride in your favorite Harley attire. Memorial contributions can be made directly to Secor Funeral Home or to his family to help with his funeral expenses.
