Farmington Funeral HomeLarry Grant Thatcher, 84, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on February 13, 2026, following a fierce and courageous battle with cancer.
Larry, the oldest of eight children was born on November 29, 1941 in Thatcher, Arizona to Mannie and Doris Thatcher. He graduated from Safford High School in 1959 and thereafter served in the Navy. Larry met the love of his life, Carol, and together they raised six children. Larry and Carol owned and operated the Solomon Market and ran a pig farm in Solomon, Arizona until 1982 when he joined APS as an electrical engineer. It was the job at APS that ultimately led Larry and Carol to Farmington where they raised their family. Larry and Carol returned to Arizona in retirement.
Patient and wise, Larry led with quiet strength and was always ready with thoughtful advice and a well-timed joke. Though cancer tested his strength, it never diminished his kindness or his love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
Larry was preceded in death by his children: Carrie Lynn Beasley and Tracy Leon Thatcher; his grandchild, Marley Taylor Simpson; his siblings: Beverly Thatcher, Linda Saline, and Don Thatcher; and his parents. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Carol Thatcher; his children: Troy Thatcher (Theresa), Raymond Thatcher (Cheryl), Julie Birch (Jamie), Tim Thatcher (Amanda), and Teresa Thatcher and Jason Beasley; siblings: Carolyn, Brent, Evelyn and Clyde; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others.
Graveside services will be held on March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington, New Mexico, followed by a celebration of life at Los Rios Café in Farmington. Final arrangements are being handled by Farmington Funeral Home.
